County council to discuss new Kettering primary school

Northamptonshire county council will be discussing proposals for the construction of a new primary school at a meeting next Tuesday.

The proposed school will be next to the Peterborough Church of England diocese to promote new housing growth in the area.

Matthew Golby, cabinet member for learning, skills and education said: “Plans for a new primary school in the Kettering area are continuing to gather pace and at next week’s meeting, we’ll discuss the proposal from the Peterborough Church of England diocese to run the new school as a voluntary-aided school.”

Voluntary-aided schools are maintained schools and are eligible for capital funding by grant from the department.

The council will also be discussing potentially building a new special school on the former Bective Middle site in Northampton as well as providing more primary school places at Green Oaks.

Moreover, plans for Kingsthorpe Primary School’s expansion will be discussed after not being granted planning permission leading to the council formally withdrawing its proposals.
